Introduction
The Healing Journey™ · Animated Case Story 5

When Healing Becomes the Way You Live

Elena had brought wounded places into the light, learned to trust Jesus more deeply, and received truth where pain once spoke loudly. Now came the next invitation: live from what Christ had already given her.

Stage Five — Freedom in Christ
“What does healing look like when I go back to ordinary life?”
Elena · Freedom in Christ
The fifth invitation:
Freedom in Christ is not the absence of every old wound or difficult day. It is learning to live each day from the truth, peace, hope, and identity Christ has given you.
Stage Five helps Elena carry healing into ordinary life: noticing old patterns without condemnation, renewing her mind with God’s Word, living from her identity in Christ, and continuing forward with Jesus one faithful step at a time.
The Story

The Old Feeling Came Back—and That Did Not Mean She Had Failed

One afternoon, something ordinary stirred an old ache in Elena. For a moment, the familiar thoughts returned.

She noticed the pull to replay the past, question her worth, and protect herself by withdrawing.

Months earlier, that moment might have convinced her that nothing had really changed.

This time, Elena recognized something different.

The old thought had returned. But she did not have to return with it.

She paused, remembered what God had shown her, and chose not to let the familiar message determine what she believed or how she would respond.

This was freedom becoming practical.
Not perfection. Not the disappearance of every struggle. A new way of living because truth had become available in the moment.
Session Fourteen · Living in Freedom

Freedom Had to Be Lived

Stage Five begins by moving the journey out of the pages and into ordinary life.

Elena began recognizing that freedom in Christ did not mean difficult emotions, memories, or familiar patterns would never return.

🌫️ Fear may appear
without being allowed to lead.
🔥 Resentment may surface
without becoming the response she chooses.
💭 An old message may return
without being accepted as truth.
🌱 Discouragement may come
and she can still return to hope.
Freedom in Christ is already yours. Learning to live from that freedom happens one faithful step at a time.
Elena stopped measuring freedom by whether struggle appeared and began noticing what she chose when it did.
Session Fifteen · Renewing My Mind

Truth Became the Path Her Mind Learned to Return To

Some thoughts had become familiar because Elena had repeated them for years. Familiar did not mean true.

The Familiar Thought

  • “This will probably go wrong.”
  • “I should have been farther along by now.”
  • “If I feel this again, I must be back where I started.”

The Renewed Response

  • Notice what she is thinking
  • Examine it in the light of Scripture
  • Bring it honestly before God
  • Return again to what He has revealed as true
“Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Romans 12:2 (NIV)
Renewing the mind was not controlling every thought. It was learning which thoughts Elena would continue believing and allowing God’s truth to have the stronger voice.
Session Sixteen · My Identity in Christ

“Who Am I in Christ?”

The question was no longer only, “What happened to me?” Stage Five invited Elena to live from a deeper foundation.

Identity Is Not Finally Built On...

  • What other people have said
  • What she has accomplished or lost
  • The roles she carries
  • Her greatest failure or hardest chapter

Her Foundation in Christ

  • She belongs to Him
  • She is loved by the Father
  • Grace remains available when she fails
  • Growth flows from belonging—not from proving worth
She was not trying to earn an identity. She was learning to live from the identity she had already received in Christ.
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!”
1 John 3:1 (NIV)
Session Seventeen · Walking Forward with Christ

The Journey Was Never Meant to End at the Last Page

Elena looked back at where she had begun.

She remembered the questions. The pain she had carried quietly. The places where trust felt difficult. The rejection, shame, fear, broken trust, unforgiveness, and beliefs she had finally brought into God’s light.

She also knew there were still places where healing would continue.

Walking with Jesus was never meant to be one stage of the journey. Walking with Jesus is the journey.

The road ahead still held things she could not predict. But Elena no longer needed confidence in her ability to control the future.

Her confidence could rest in Christ.
The same Jesus who had walked with her through the healing journey would remain with her in every ordinary day that followed.
Living It Each Day

Freedom Became a Series of Returns

Elena did not leave the journey with a promise that she would never struggle again. She left with places to return.

1
Return to Christ.
Bring the day honestly before the One who has walked with her all along.
2
Return to God’s Word.
When an old message sounds familiar, examine it in the light of what is true.
3
Return to identity.
Failure may require repentance and growth, but it does not become her name.
4
Return to the next faithful step.
She does not have to live tomorrow today or become everything at once.
Prayer, Scripture, worship, gratitude, and healthy Christian community were no longer assignments to complete. They were ways Elena remained rooted in Christ as life continued.
Looking Back · Looking Forward

She Could See How Far They Had Come Together

The end of the book was not the end of Elena’s healing or her growth. It was a change in how she would carry the journey forward.

What She Could Now Recognize

  • Her past influenced her, but did not have to determine today
  • Old thoughts could return without becoming truth
  • Her identity was rooted in Christ
  • Growth did not require perfection

What She Would Carry Forward

  • Stay close to Jesus
  • Keep returning to Scripture
  • Receive grace and keep growing
  • Take the next faithful step
She was no longer waiting for a life with no difficult days. She was learning how to live those days differently with Christ.
Freedom was not a finish line Elena crossed. It was becoming the way she walked.
Final Stage Truth · Scripture · Prayer

The Road Continues—and Jesus Is Still With You

“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
— Matthew 28:20 (NIV)

Elena began this journey wondering whether healing was possible. She finishes knowing something deeper: Christ has been faithful through every stage, and the life ahead does not have to be lived from the wounds behind her.

Stage Five Truth:
Freedom in Christ is learning to live each day increasingly grounded in God’s truth, renewed in the mind, secure in identity, and confident in the faithful presence of Jesus.

Lord Jesus, thank You for every step You have walked with me. Help me live from the freedom You have given me rather than from the wounds, fears, and old messages I have carried. Renew my mind with Your Word. Root my identity more deeply in You. When old patterns return, teach me to return again to truth without condemnation. Give me courage for the road ahead, grace for the places where I am still growing, and confidence that I never walk alone. Keep leading me, one faithful step at a time. Amen.

The Healing Journey™: The journey is not over. You are learning how to live differently because of what is true.

Keep walking with Jesus.
